Is Surgery Right for You? If pain, limping and joint dysfunction from hip osteoarthritis become so severe that none of these treatments provides adequate relief, surgery may be the next option.3 That doesn't necessarily mean hip replacement, however. There are a number of surgical alternatives, such as arthroscopy, osteotomy, and synovectomy. These surgical procedures may delay the necessity for a hip replacement, but
