The Solution

“For the
first time
in so many years, after surgery, I can’t believe
that I have
no pain."

Jimmy met with Brad Penenberg, MD, which according to Jimmy was, “The best call I ever made.” Dr. Penenberg chose to implant Jimmy with Wright’s CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology, by considering such factors as Jimmy’s age and activity level. He also chose a minimally-invasive surgical approach to implanting Jimmy’s hip replacement, called the PATH® Technique. This minimally-invasive procedure would only leave a small scar and disturb little soft tissue under the incision, thereby allowing Jimmy to rehabilitate faster and experience less pain than traditional hip replacement surgery. Jimmy’s surgery was performed in October of 2005. It was a great success. Along with an immediate relief from the pain that he had suffered with for 4-6 years, unbelievably, Jimmy was able to walk several steps within just hours of his surgery.

By the next morning, he was walking the length of the entire hallway, unassisted. And, even more unbelievably, Jimmy was back on the court and back in action again, producing a tennis training DVD within 6 weeks of surgery. Just six weeks.

In Jimmy’s own words, “For the first time in so many years, after surgery, I can’t believe that I have no pain. No pain in my leg, my hip, or my back. And, I just woke up and I said (whew) ‘Why didn’t I do this before?’

But, the most incredible thing is that I think I’m going to spend 4-5 days in the hospital, enjoy myself and relax. But, Dr. Penenberg comes in that afternoon and he says “How about you getting up and taking a little walk?” And, I said “No, I don’t think so.” And, he says “Come on. Get out of bed. You can walk. You can do this.” And, I didn’t know what to expect. I was afraid again. Since I really didn’t have any pain, I didn’t want to take a chance on having pain come back. But, I did get up and I did walk. I took a few steps, got back in bed and the next morning, he’s got me walking up and down the hallway. With the MIS surgery, I only had a little scar, and yet, what it did for me ...it’s mind-boggling.”
