Patient Testimonials

CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology
Paul is a professional golfer who recently competed in the TPC Summerlin PGA Tournament in Las Vegas. A few years ago he noticed his body was beginning to slow down. “I wasn’t in severe pain, but I was experiencing stiffness in my left hip after golfing and decreased mobility,” says Paul. He decided to seek his doctor’s advice before his weakening hip affected his golf game.

X-rays showed that Paul’s left hip was close to bone-on-bone movement which can be both extremely painful and debilitating, and usually requires hip replacement to alleviate the problem. “I realized I would eventually need a hip replacement, as the x-rays suggested, because I have Perthes disease which caused a one inch length difference in my legs.”

Although Paul was still golfing competitively, he decided to take the advice of his orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Ted Firestone, and move forward with hip replacement surgery. “I knew it wasn’t going to get any better, and I wanted to take care of it while I still had a few good years left with golf,” Paul explains.

In September 2005, Paul had his left hip replaced with Wright’s CONSERVE® Total Hip with BFH® Technology. After surgery, Paul worked with a physical therapist and trainer and was back on the golf course in only three months. “It took awhile to get back into the groove because I had to adjust my movements, since the length of my left leg had been corrected. I was stiff after surgery, but I pushed myself with my trainer’s help and created more speed and strength in my body’s movements. It made a real difference in my golf game,” says Paul.

Now Paul is back on top of his golf game and is getting ready to play another PGA Tour event. He looks forward to continuing to get stronger and credits his new hip with allowing his body the opportunity to perform better.

Wright’s CONSERVE® Total Hip is designed to replicate the natural anatomy and motion of the hip. It features a larger femoral ball and socket design that more closely matches the sizing of a natural femoral head, resulting in greater range of motion and can reduce the potential for dislocation. In addition, the implant’s metal-on-metal bearing surface is designed to offer the benefits of added durability and reduced wear compared to alternative treatment options. Furthermore, the larger implant enables a greater range of motion without impingement of the hip, allowing most patients to enjoy a wide range of activities after their surgery. This can make a big difference for those trying to return to a more normal, active lifestyle.
